Black bear spotted in Chihuahua's Janos Biosphere Reserve

A black bear (Ursus americanus) was captured on a monitoring camera drinking from an artificial waterer in the Janos Biosphere Reserve, Chihuahua. The sighting occurred on September 13 around 7:00 a.m. along the Bavispe–Nuevo Casas Grandes highway.

The SICT Chihuahua Center reported that the waterer is part of a series of artisanal structures installed to support wildlife moving through the region. Officials stated that the presence of the bear is a positive indicator of ongoing conservation efforts and the importance of maintaining ecological corridors that allow species to move between mountain ranges to access food and water.
