Black bears cause disruptions at British Columbia golf courses

Black bears have caused disruptions at golf courses in British Columbia, Canada, leading to viral footage of wildlife interacting with golfers' belongings.

In Pitt Meadows, a bear was filmed at the Golden Eagle Golf Club approaching a golf cart and dragging away a bag of clubs. Witnesses noted that another bear appeared to wait for the first as they moved away from the course.

In a separate incident in Whistler, a black bear climbed into a parked golf cart and seized a bag containing ham, Swiss croissants, toiletries, and golfers' wallets. The bear retreated into the woods to consume the food, though staff were eventually able to use bullhorns to drive the animal away and recover the wallets.

Wildlife experts note that approximately 50 resident black bears live in the Whistler area. They warn that bears have a keen sense of smell and are frequently drawn to golf courses and trails in search of food, emphasizing that human food habituation is a primary reason bears are often euthanized in the province.
