Black bears visit private pool in Monrovia, California

A couple living in Monrovia, California, near the Los Angeles National Forest, has developed a routine of coexistence with a family of black bears that frequently visits their property to use their private swimming pool.

Homeowners Brian Gordon and Ricardo Martínez report that the bears, whom they have identified as Maddie, Punky, and Nappy, often enter the garden to swim and rest in the water to escape the heat. While the couple initially experienced concern and attempted to deter the animals using horns and air horns, they have since adopted a strategy of maintaining distance and staying indoors when the bears approach.

The residents emphasize that they do not feed the animals or allow them access to trash or food, which helps prevent the bears from attempting to enter the home. They aim to demonstrate that humans and local wildlife can share a space safely by respecting boundaries and avoiding direct interaction.
