US political shifts: Black gubernatorial bids and diesel fuel executive order
Several Black candidates are making historic bids for governorship in the United States. In Nevada, Attorney General Aaron Ford has secured the Democratic nomination and will face Republican incumbent Joe Lombardo in November. Other notable candidates include former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms in Georgia and Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley in Wisconsin. If successful, these candidates could become only the fourth and fifth Black Americans elected as governors in U.S. history.
Separately, President Trump has signed an executive order regarding diesel fuel. The order allows all drivers to purchase tax-exempt red dye diesel, a fuel typically restricted to off-road agricultural and industrial use. The administration intends for this move to lower shipping costs and reduce retail prices for consumer goods by easing restrictions on untaxed fuel usage.
