Black cats: Efforts to dispel superstitions and promote welfare
Efforts are being made to challenge long-standing superstitions regarding black cats, which have historically been associated with bad luck, witchcraft, and the supernatural. Animal protectionists and cultural institutions are working to promote the care and protection of these animals, noting that prejudices can still lead to neglect or mistreatment.
In Mexico City, the Museo de Historia Natural y Cultura Ambiental is hosting a special workshop titled ‘Miaullidos panterosos’ on October 17. The event aims to educate the public about the curiosities of black cats and foster appreciation for them, helping to shift the negative perceptions rooted in popular myths and legends.
