Brazil advances racial equality through policy and community initiatives
Various initiatives across Brazil are advancing racial equality and Black consciousness through policy, education, and community action.
In Rio Claro, the municipal government established the Municipal Plan for the Promotion of Racial Equality (Plampir) to combat racism and reduce inequalities in sectors such as education, health, and housing. Meanwhile, in Salvador, over 200 organizations have received the Ethnic-Racial Diversity Seal for implementing inclusion practices in the workplace.
In the academic sphere, the 15th Sernegra event is accepting proposals for thematic sessions in Brasília, focusing on the intersectionality of Black bodies, sport, and territory. Additionally, the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) held the “Blacks in Science” seminar as part of its Black November programming. In Marabá, the Black Consciousness in Movement Collective launched activities to celebrate cultural memory and autonomy through gastronomy and community engagement.
