Black Forest authorities attempt to deter abnormal wolf

Authorities in the Black Forest are attempting new methods to manage a male wolf known as "Grindi" at Hornisgrinde. For over three years, the wolf has exhibited abnormal behavior by approaching hikers and dogs, often staying within 30 meters of people.

While a permit to shoot the wolf was issued earlier this year, it was suspended in March following the mating season. Officials are now initiating "deterrence attempts" to teach the wolf to avoid human contact, aiming to save the animal while maintaining public safety. National Park Director Berthold Reichle emphasized that while the wolf is a key part of the ecosystem, its behavior is unpredictable and not normal. He also warned that human actions, such as feeding or seeking the animal out for photos, contribute to the problem.
