Black Market film sets Guinness World Record in Lagos

The Nollywood crime thriller ‘Black Market’ has set a Guinness World Record for the largest audience gathering for a film screening at a single location. On Saturday, September 26, more than 51,000 viewers gathered at Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) in Lagos to watch the film.

Guinness World Records officially recognized 51,000 qualifying viewers, defined as those who remained at the venue from the beginning to the end of the screening. This figure surpasses the previous record of 43,624 set in 2015 during a screening of the Filipino film ‘Felix Manalo’ at the Philippine Arena. While Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat noted an overall attendance of approximately 64,000, the official record was based on the qualifying criteria.

Directed by Fatimah Binta Gimsay and produced by Nora Awolowo, ‘Black Market’ follows five women involved in a cross-border smuggling operation. The event, which included a red carpet and entertainment, was organized by Rixel Studios, Signet Ring Studios, and FilmOne Studios, with FilmOne serving as the distributor.
