Turkey fishing season begins with bountiful catches and high export activity
The fishing season has officially commenced in Turkey, bringing renewed activity to fish markets in regions such as Trabzon and Kahramanmaraş. Following the end of the fishing ban on September 1, Black Sea fishermen have reported a bountiful season, particularly with palamut (bonito). In Trabzon, palamut weights are increasing toward 1 kilogram, with prices ranging between 100 and 150 TL per unit. Other available species include salmon, sea bass, sea bream, and anchovy.
In Kahramanmaraş, a major hub for freshwater aquaculture, the market features both sea fish and locally produced freshwater species from the Menzelet and Sır dams, such as trout and carp. The region is a significant economic driver, with 68 enterprises producing approximately 20,000 tons of fish annually. Kahramanmaraş exports its aquatic products to 54 countries, maintaining a strong position in the production of trout and Turkish salmon.
