Black Sea region universities implement Da Vinci robotic surgery
Universities in Turkey's Black Sea region have introduced the Da Vinci Robotic Surgical System, marking a significant advancement in local medical technology.
At Karadeniz Technical University (KTÜ) Farabi Hospital, Prof. Dr. Ali Güner and the General Surgery team successfully performed the first robotic surgery in the Trabzon and Eastern Black Sea region. The procedure was conducted on a patient with a complex anatomy and previous surgical history. The system provides surgeons with high-resolution, three-dimensional imaging and robotic arms that translate hand movements with high precision, helping to minimize tissue trauma and reduce recovery times.
Similarly, Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ) has launched robotic surgery services at its Health Application and Research Center. OMÜ Rector Prof. Dr. Fatma Aydın stated that the system aims to provide advanced surgical access to patients in Samsun and surrounding provinces, reducing the need for travel to other cities. The technology is also intended to enhance medical education and scientific research for students and academics. The system functions by allowing the surgeon to control the robot via a console, which filters out hand tremors and provides enhanced maneuverability in tight surgical spaces.
