Black Star International Film Festival returns to Kumasi

The 11th edition of the Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) is scheduled to take place in Kumasi, Ghana, from September 24 to September 27, 2026. Held at Golden Eagle Cinemas, the festival operates under the theme ‘Film & Global Culture: The New Wave of African Cinema.’

From an initial pool of 42 submitting nations, films from 12 countries were selected for screening, including Ghana, Nigeria, Uganda, the United States, South Africa, Zimbabwe, China, Cameroon, Singapore, the Dominican Republic, Russia, and Eswatini. The program features a diverse range of content, including documentaries, animation, Kumawood titles, music videos, and AI-generated content.

Beyond screenings, the festival includes masterclasses, industry discussions, and business sessions. Key topics include the protection of intellectual property, the role of artificial intelligence in filmmaking, and the importance of local-language cinema in building sustainable African audiences. The event also features a session by Ghana’s National Film Authority regarding the Film Fund.
