Black wealth faces decline amid economic pressures

Recent analysis of Federal Reserve data indicates that inflation-adjusted median Black family wealth declined by 25% between 2022 and 2025, falling to approximately $36,800. Black families were reportedly the only major racial or ethnic group to experience a decline in median net worth during this period.

This economic shift highlights a growing vulnerability where rising expenses, such as housing, healthcare, and education, may be outpacing savings and investments. The decline underscores long-standing challenges regarding unequal access to mortgages, business financing, and inherited wealth.

In a separate discussion regarding wealth creation strategies, media mogul Bob Johnson detailed the business model used to build Black Entertainment Television (BET). Johnson emphasized that long-term economic power is driven by equity ownership rather than wage-earning, noting that BET’s strategic partnerships and lean operational model eventually led to a multi-billion dollar sale.
