Blackfeet descendants seek meeting with Trump to restore Washington Redskins name

Descendants of Chief Two Guns White Calf, the Blackfeet leader whose image inspired the Washington Redskins logo, are seeking a meeting with President Donald Trump to advocate for the restoration of the team’s former name and branding.

Representatives for the estate, including Morningstar Gopher and Kenneth Conway, state that the family was not consulted when former owner Dan Snyder discontinued the name and logo in 2020 following pressure regarding racial controversy. The family contends that the image was a source of pride rather than harm and seeks to participate directly in any rebranding efforts.

In addition to restoring the name and logo, the estate is proposing that the team’s new stadium be named the ‘John Two Guns White Calf Memorial Stadium’, which would mark the first NFL stadium named after a Native American. President Trump has previously expressed support for bringing back the name, suggesting it would generate excitement.
