Blackmagic Pyxis 12K used for 3D live monitoring in ‘Unchained’

The dance short film ‘Unchained’ served as a proof-of-concept to test a compact, independent stereoscopic 3D workflow using high frame rate (HFR) technology. Director Didier Paradis utilized Blackmagic Pyxis 12K digital cinema cameras paired with a Sony ELF-SR2 Spatial Reality Display to enable real-time 3D monitoring on set.

This live supervision allowed the production team to verify depth, convergence, and choreography while the dancers were still performing, rather than discovering technical issues during post-production. The four-minute project, choreographed by Eva Guillotin and featuring nine dancers, explores themes of violence against women. The production was filmed in a single day with a volunteer crew to determine if such a streamlined stereoscopic workflow could function effectively outside of large-scale studio productions.
