Blackpool Air Show urges visitors not to feed seagulls amid safety concerns

The annual Blackpool Air Show at Blackpool Airport is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 8‑9, 2026. Organisers expect a crowd similar to the 350,000 spectators who attended last year and will showcase RAF Typhoons, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and the Red Devils parachute team.

Attendees have been asked not to feed seagulls or leave food waste, as bird gatherings increase the risk of bird‑strike incidents during low‑level flying displays. Jim Johnson, operations, safety and compliance manager at Blackpool Airport, said, “Limiting the availability of food helps reduce the number of gulls in the vicinity of the airport, lowering the risk of bird strikes during the flying displays.”

The warning aims to keep both pilots and the large public audience safe while the show proceeds over the iconic seafront.
