BlackRock increases stake in Spanish defense firm Indra

BlackRock has increased its stake in the Spanish technology and defense firm Indra to 3.538%, a position valued at approximately 371 million euros. This move comes as Indra expands its operations in defense systems, cybersecurity, and air traffic management, driven by increased European military spending and NATO guidelines.

While the Spanish state-owned SEPI maintains political control through its core shareholding, the significant entry of BlackRock highlights a trend of international private capital seeking returns in strategic sectors. This investment is part of a broader pattern in the IBEX 35, where global asset managers like BlackRock and Vanguard hold significant stakes, often ranging between 2% and 5%, in many of Spain's core companies.
