Blagoevgrad commemorates liberation of Gorna Dzhumaya

Blagoevgrad celebrated the 114th anniversary of the liberation of Gorna Dzhumaya and the Pirin Macedonia region with a series of historical commemorations. The events included a parade and a historical reenactment titled ‘Morning of Freedom’ in the Varoşa district.

More than 120 reenactors depicted the entry of Bulgarian troops into the city and the arrival of General Spas Georgiev. The performance also portrayed the defense of the newly liberated city against Ottoman forces. The festivities featured a parade from the Varoşa district to Macedonia Square, concluding with a concert by the Pirin Ensemble.

Bulgarian President Iliana Yotova and Blagoevgrad Mayor Metodi Baikushev led a memorial procession through the city center. During the event, Mayor Baikushev emphasized the importance of remembering the past as a lesson for the future, while President Yotova highlighted the city's role as a bridge between history and the opportunities available to its youth.
