Blake Griffin to launch late-night sports show ‘The Stepback’
Retired NBA All-Star Blake Griffin is launching a new weekly late-night-style sports talk show titled ‘The Stepback’. The program is scheduled to debut on October 20, coinciding with the start of the NBA season, and will be available on Prime Video and YouTube.
Co-produced by Amazon’s Wondery and Griffin’s Mortal Media, the show will be recorded in front of a live studio audience. Griffin intends to draw inspiration from programs such as ‘The Daily Show’ and ‘Last Week Tonight’, using comedy to explore various sports-related topics. These include the economics of sports betting, athlete empowerment, officiating controversies, NIL, and political polarization in sports.
Griffin joins Amazon’s growing Creator Services division, which includes other high-profile sports personalities like LeBron James and Jason Kelce. This venture marks an expansion of Griffin’s existing partnership with Amazon, where he currently serves as a member of the NBA on Prime studio team.
