Blake Miguez wins Louisiana GOP endorsement for 6th District seat

The Republican Party of Louisiana has endorsed State Senator Blake Miguez for the U.S. House seat in the state’s 6th Congressional District. The decision was made by five of the eight members of the party’s executive committee following a signature drive by members of the state central committee.

The endorsement has sparked internal conflict within the party. State Senator Rick Edmonds, who also sought the endorsement, has called for a new vote to either endorse both candidates or neither, citing that he submitted more signatures than Miguez. Party chair Derek Babcock indicated that a follow-up vote is unlikely to occur immediately.

The decision has reportedly caused friction with Governor Jeff Landry. Miguez, a 44-year-old lawmaker with a background in the oil and gas industry, is positioned by supporters as a leader representing a new generation of conservative values in Louisiana.
