Blancpain releases limited edition Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe

Blancpain has released a special edition Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe to commemorate 70 years since the model's original 1956 debut. The new release is a recreation of an iconic 1968 reference, with only 300 pieces being produced.

Historically, the Bathyscaphe was designed as a more compact, civilian-friendly version of the professional Fifty Fathoms tool watch. While the Fifty Fathoms was built for military and professional divers, the Bathyscaphe was categorized as a ‘skin diver,’ intended for recreational use and everyday wear.

The new model features a 37.40mm case and a 12.30mm thickness. It includes a sunburst meteor grey dial, a steel bezel with a ceramic insert, and lacquered numerals. For technical improvements over the original, the watch utilizes the in-house Calibre 1150 automatic movement, which offers a 100-hour power reserve and a silicon hairspring for better magnetic resistance. Unlike the original solid case back, this edition features a sapphire case back to display the movement.
