Blantyre Synod celebrates 150 years of Blantyre Mission

The Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) Blantyre Synod is hosting a three-day celebration to mark the 150th anniversary of the Blantyre Mission. Established by Scottish missionaries in 1876, the mission is credited with significantly influencing Malawi’s religious, educational, and healthcare sectors.

Reverend Anderson Juma, the synod’s general secretary, noted the institution's historical importance to the nation's economy, pointing out that the first Reserve Bank office of Nyasaland was located at the mission.

The anniversary program includes guided tours of historical sites at the mission premises, an anniversary march through the Blantyre central business district in partnership with the Blantyre City Council, and a concluding thanksgiving service at the Henry Henderson School of Excellence grounds.
