Blasius Kebingin's Body Left Behind at Kupang Airport Delays Return to Lembata
Blasius Avelino Kebingin, a 25‑year‑old student from Lembata, Nusa Tenggara Timur, died in Jakarta and his remains were flown to his hometown via Lion Air with a scheduled transit in Surabaya and Kupang. Accompanied by his brother Sandro and cousin Jansen, the family reported to airport staff that the body would be transferred to the next flight, but were told the cargo handling was automatic and to wait in the departure lounge.
When the connecting flight arrived at Gewayantana Airport in Larantuka, the body was not on board. The family learned the remains would only be dispatched the following day, causing confusion, disappointment and additional costs such as a hired fast boat from Lewoleba to Larantuka. The airline later confirmed the delay and attributed it to a scheduling error, prompting the family to lodge complaints with Lion Air and Wings Air.
