Blast shuts down Ethereum layer-2 network
The Ethereum layer-2 network Blast has officially shut down its operations. The decision follows an announcement on October 2 stating that the economics of operating the chain were no longer sustainable, as maintenance costs exceeded the revenue generated by the network.
A recovery website has been established to allow users to reclaim remaining funds, including ETH, wrapped ETH, or USDB. The recovery process will remain active for 12 months, with a final support deadline set for November 4, 2027. Claims are paid directly from recovery smart contracts on the Ethereum mainnet.
For Blast Mobile users, the recovery process requires importing the app seed phrase into a wallet such as MetaMask or Rabby. The recovery page has issued a security warning advising users to only ever type their seed phrase into a wallet application and never directly into a website.
Data from DeFiLlama indicates that the value in Blast’s canonical bridge on Ethereum dropped significantly leading up to the shutdown, falling from approximately $41.04 million on October 26 to roughly $6.51 million by November 3.
