German broadband analysis finds slower internet tariffs cost more

For new customers, a 100 Mbps fiber contract averages €30.53 per month, while a 150 Mbps plan is cheaper at €26.33. A 16 Mbps DSL offer costs €34.20, and even a 500 Mbps package averages €29.94. The study attributes the trend to providers promoting high‑speed fiber tariffs and reducing subsidies for low‑speed DSL, making the latter comparatively pricier. Consumers are advised not to limit themselves to low‑speed options and to consider larger, faster tariffs even if the full bandwidth is not needed, as they may end up paying less overall.
