Bülent Ecevit University begins solar energy plant construction
Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN) has commenced construction on a Solar Energy Plant (GES) at its Çaycuma Vocational School campus. The project is part of the Public and Municipal Renewable Energy Project (KAYEP), which is funded by the World Bank and coordinated by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change.
The facility will be built on a 24,000 square meter area with an installed capacity of 1500 kWe (1861.2 kWp). Once operational, the electricity generated will be transferred via the national grid to the BEUN Faculty of Medicine. This is expected to meet approximately 25% of the Faculty of Medicine’s annual electricity requirements.
Designed to operate for roughly 25 years, the plant aims to reduce the university’s energy costs and carbon emissions while serving as a practical research site for students and academics. University Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Ulusoy stated that the investment is a strategic step toward achieving a green campus model.
