Bălți public transport to be modernized using AI

Șerban Pîrvulescu, a 20-year-old Romanian computer science student at Babeș-Bolyai University and founder of Zexsoft, has secured a €60,000 European grant to modernize public transport in Bălți, Moldova.

The project, titled Urban Way, utilizes artificial intelligence to make public transit more predictable. The system will collect data from GPS-equipped buses and trolleybuses to estimate arrival times more accurately. This information will be integrated into existing transport applications in Bălți and displayed on electronic station panels.

Additionally, the platform will provide local authorities with tools to simulate how traffic changes or temperature variations affect transport efficiency. Funded through the EIT Urban Mobility RAPTOR 2026 program, the project is scheduled for implementation by December 2026, with initial testing occurring on a single city route.
