Blidösundsbolaget to inspect archipelago piers

Blidösundsbolaget has launched an initiative to inspect the condition of traffic piers throughout the Stockholm archipelago during the autumn and winter seasons. The goal is to identify structural deficiencies early to allow owners to perform necessary repairs and ensure continued maritime traffic.

In the Stockholm archipelago, Waxholmsbolaget services approximately 300 piers, two-thirds of which are privately owned. Daniel Lindefors, operational manager at Blidösundsbolaget, noted that many issues stem from aging wooden structures or lack of maintenance rather than damage caused by vessels.

While older piers that do not meet current regional standards will continue to be serviced if kept in good condition, any new constructions or major renovations must comply with regional requirements to be approved for traffic. The inspection aims to prevent accidents caused by structural failure during docking or heavy weather.
