Blind hikers complete inclusive ascent of Cerro Colorado

Members of the Blind Hiking Team, a group composed of individuals who are blind or have low vision, recently completed an ascent of Cerro Colorado in Tijuana. The activity is part of a training program designed to promote inclusive hiking and strengthen the autonomy of participants.

To navigate the terrain safely, participants use directional bars with two hikers positioned at either end to provide support. Guides describe path conditions, such as rocks and elevation changes, as the group progresses. Ericka Félix Ramírez, director of the civil association Alebrijes, stated that the group has been training for four years to help members develop skills for greater security in their daily lives.

Through consistent practice, participants have progressed from easy trails to mid-mountain routes. One participant, Juan Carlos Moreno Zúñiga, shared that he began hiking at Cerro Colorado in 2014 after losing his sight to glaucoma.
