Blizzard announces Diablo 5 for 2029 and new StarCraft project

At BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard Entertainment announced major upcoming projects, most notably the official confirmation of Diablo 5, which is targeting a release in the spring of 2029. The new entry will feature a significant narrative shift, set in a post-apocalyptic Sanctuary where Diablo has already triumphed over humanity. The game is expected to include a procedural world, a return to classic mechanics, and a large roster of classes, including the new Plague Knight.

To focus resources on the development of Diablo 5, Blizzard has decided to bypass a third major expansion for Diablo 4, though the current title will continue to receive seasonal content. Additionally, Blizzard confirmed a partnership with Netflix to develop an animated Diablo series, with potential future adaptations for other franchises like Overwatch and Warcraft.

In another major announcement, Blizzard revealed a new StarCraft project slated for 2030. Moving away from its traditional real-time strategy roots, this new title will be an open-world shooter set 70 years after the events of StarCraft II. The project, led by Dan Hay, aims to provide a complete, standalone narrative experience rather than a live-service model and is confirmed to be coming to Xbox consoles.
