Blizzard announces update plan for World of Warcraft: Infinite

Blizzard Entertainment has revealed the release and update strategy for ‘World of Warcraft: Infinite’, which is scheduled to launch on PC on November 5. To promote the launch, the company released a three-part comedy mockumentary series titled ‘World of Warcraft: Planet Azeroth’, hosted by British comedian Bill Bailey, which showcases classic game environments using updated lighting and graphical effects.

Lead game designer Kris Zierhut stated that the update cadence for ‘Infinite’ will be slower than the current retail version of World of Warcraft. While the retail version typically updates every eight weeks, ‘Infinite’ aims for a frequency of approximately every four months, or three times per year. This approach is intended to avoid the rushed content and bugs associated with rapid cycles, as well as the long content droughts seen in previous expansions.

To maintain engagement between major patches, the development team plans to use an activity calendar to gradually unlock content over the four-month intervals rather than releasing everything at once. The game focuses on a ‘Classic Plus’ experience, emphasizing exploration, character growth, and social interaction. According to data from classicplus.io, the title attracted over one million new players during its testing phase.
