Blizzard begins cinematic filming for Diablo 5
Blizzard Entertainment has officially begun filming cinematics and motion capture for Diablo 5. Neil David Carter, the studio’s cinematic director, confirmed the milestone by sharing a photo of the motion capture stage on X.
Senior producer Tiffany Watt noted that the game will utilize a modified version of the Diablo 4 engine, rather than building a new engine from scratch. The upcoming title is expected to feature procedurally generated maps, adding complexity to world design and balance compared to its predecessor.
While the current target release is set for spring 2029, some industry observers have expressed skepticism regarding the timeline. If the game meets this window, it would launch approximately six years after Diablo 4, a significantly shorter development cycle than the eleven-year gap seen between Diablo 3 and Diablo 4.
