Blizzard fires employee for using developer spells to cheat in WoW raid

A Blizzard employee acting as a Game Master used internal developer commands, including the undocumented “Area Death (TEST)” and “Death Touch” spells, to instantly kill bosses during a Mythic+ run of the Nexus Point Xe’nas dungeon. The assistance allowed a group of players to complete the raid and claim a seasonal title.

Community members uncovered the logs on public raid‑record sites, sparking widespread criticism. Blizzard launched an internal investigation, confirmed the breach of its Code of Conduct, and terminated the employee with immediate effect. In a statement, community manager Kaivax said the company had also taken action against the player accounts that knowingly participated and the affected raid was disqualified from the Raider.io rankings.

The incident highlights the strict policies governing developer tool access on live game servers and Blizzard’s commitment to enforce them.
