World of Warcraft: Forever set for November launch with new Legacy system
Blizzard Entertainment is preparing for the November 4 launch of World of Warcraft: Forever, a new “Classic+” experience designed to sit alongside the modern and existing Classic versions of the game. The project features new zones, quests, dungeons, raids, and the Skyborne race, aiming to capture the original “Vanilla” atmosphere while introducing fresh content.
During the current beta phase, Blizzard developers have emphasized a commitment to maintaining social friction to preserve the game’s identity. Developer Josh Greenfield confirmed that features like shared tagging and shared loot will not be implemented, stating it is “extremely important to our social pillar to maintain some of this friction” to encourage player interaction.
The game will also utilize a new account-wide horizontal progression system called the Legacy System. This system rewards players for exploring various content pillars—such as professions, PvP, and dungeons—through Legacy Challenges, Perks, and Rewards, allowing players to earn account-wide points without necessarily needing to create numerous alternative characters.
