Blizzard releases World of Warcraft Patch 12.1 with new Lairs feature

Blizzard Entertainment announced that the World of Warcraft Patch 12.1, titled “Curse of Ula’tek,” will launch on 11 August. The update introduces “Lairs,” a new type of world‑boss encounter that can be accessed at World difficulty and scales for groups of 5‑40 players across Normal, Heroic and Mythic (15‑25) settings. Players can enter a Lair solo or with a pre‑made group, and the system provides instant entry via a summoning stone.

The first Lair revealed is the Tidebound Grotto, located beneath the waters of the Coiled Isle and featuring the naga sorceress Nymrissa Waveca. Additional content includes a new dungeon called Altar of Fangs, new PvP bots for arena practice, and several new delves and activities. The patch also expands pet‑companion integration and adds new storyline elements related to the Atal’or Bloodsworn and Prey mechanics.
