Blizzard reveals design details for World of Warcraft Forever
Blizzard Entertainment has revealed design philosophies for 'World of Warcraft Forever,' focusing on a return to classic MMORPG roots. A primary focus is a revamped loot and equipment system designed to prevent the rapid stat inflation and gear obsolescence seen in modern retail versions of the game. Developers intend for items to retain utility over long periods, with stats increasing gradually to maintain a sense of progression and value.
To encourage discovery, Blizzard is implementing technology to hide item statistics and tooltips in game files until they are physically obtained, a move aimed at limiting the influence of dataminers. The game will also lack an 'Adventure Guide' for loot, forcing players to rediscover the meta manually.
Regarding gameplay modes, the title will utilize a 'realmless' system divided into three distinct rule sets: PvE (cooperative), PvP (player vs. player combat between Horde and Alliance), and RP (roleplay). Developers noted that while players can choose their preferred style, they will be unable to swap between these brackets once established to maintain game balance. Notably, a combined RP-PvP bracket will not be included to avoid the community management issues seen in previous iterations.
