Bloc Québécois delegation visits Taiwan to discuss strategic cooperation

A delegation of Members of Parliament from Canada’s Bloc Québécois, led by party leader Yves-François Blanchet, conducted its first official visit to Taiwan since the party’s founding in 1991. During meetings with President Lai Ching-te and Ministry of Foreign Affairs officials, the delegation discussed strengthening bilateral ties across several strategic sectors.

President Lai expressed interest in deepening cooperation in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, aerospace, critical minerals, renewable energy, and supply chain security. He highlighted the synergy between Quebec’s expertise in AI and aerospace and Taiwan’s leadership in chip manufacturing and precision engineering.

Blanchet emphasized the importance of Taiwan’s participation in international organizations such as the WHO, CPTPP, and ICAO. He also noted the delegation's visit to Kinmen to observe regional security challenges. The Bloc Québécois expressed support for the signing of the Trade Cooperation Framework Agreement (TCFA) to facilitate economic exchange between Canada and Taiwan.
