Bloc Québécois explores relaunch of Arvida rolling mill

The Bloc Québécois is exploring the potential reopening of the former Novelis aluminum rolling mill in Arvida, which has been closed since 2012. During a recent visit to the site, Bloc leader Yves-François Blanchet indicated that the party is interested in projects that help protect Canada from American protectionist policies.

Blanchet noted that while the facility would require equipment upgrades, repurposing the existing infrastructure may be more economically viable and profitable than constructing a new mill, particularly when facing competition from China. The Bloc Québécois intends to collaborate with the federal government to support the project through available financial tools in Ottawa and Quebec, provided that subsequent studies confirm the feasibility of a relaunch.
