Blockchain technology expands into finance, AI, and supply chains
Blockchain technology is increasingly being integrated into diverse sectors, including finance, logistics, and high-performance computing. Robinhood is utilizing its own Ethereum Layer-2 chain for tokenized securities and DeFi products, though critics have raised concerns regarding central control, liquidity, and technical risks such as sequencer outages.
In the financial services sector, Visa is working to connect settlement data with onchain credit models to finance stablecoin card programs, aiming to reduce costs by up to 30 percent. Citigroup is also exploring blockchain-based solutions for cross-border payments for Japanese companies. Meanwhile, Cardano is partnering with Blockforce to anchor millions of Brazilian export and supply chain data records on the blockchain to reduce costs.
Infrastructure is also evolving, as seen with Riot Platforms. The company is transitioning from Bitcoin mining toward AI data center infrastructure, developing a 191-megawatt site in Texas under a long-term lease agreement with Anthropic.
