Bloober Team to continue releasing physical games for as long as possible

Bloober Team, the developer behind the Silent Hill 2 remake, has expressed its intention to continue releasing physical versions of its games ‘for as long as possible.’ Despite the industry trend toward digital distribution and Sony’s decision to end PlayStation disc production by 2028, the studio emphasizes the emotional value of physical media.

CEO Piotr Babieno noted that collecting games creates a personal connection between players, studios, and the titles themselves. He argued that while digital distribution is more cost-effective and simpler for publishers, the tactile experience remains a unique way to engage fans. This sentiment is shared by Tymon Smektala, Executive Director of the studio’s publishing label, Broken Mirror Games.

The studio is also focusing on sensory experiences beyond just visual and auditory fidelity. For their upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, Onyx: The Dark Group, the team is prioritizing haptic and tactile elements to enhance horror, suggesting that while AI can replicate sight and sound, the sense of touch remains a distinct human experience.
