Italian towns host World Blood Donor Day celebrations
Across several Italian cities, events marked World Blood Donor Day on June 14‑15, 2026, highlighting the importance of blood and plasma donation. In Molfetta, the parish of "don Tonino Bello" held a ceremony with AVIS, the Italian Red Cross, FIDAS and Fratres, featuring a mass led by Mons. Domenico Basile and a piano performance. Aosta’s celebration at the Battaglione Aosta brought together the mayor, Raffaele Rocco, municipal officials and police, emphasizing solidarity and health protection.
In Marina di Ravenna, Advs FIDAS organised the "Lo sport fa buon sangue" event, combining Pilates, a women's 3×3 basketball tournament and informational stands to promote donation among young people. The campaign in Calangianus, Sardinia, stressed regional blood shortages; the mayor, Fabio Albieri, thanked the local AVIS chapter, saying, “un grazie immenso va all’AVISE, in modo speciale, alla sezione di Calangianus per lo straordinario e instancabile lavoro che svolge durante tutto l’anno sul nostro paese.”
The provincial AVIS of Alessandria launched a slogan‑driven awareness drive, "Sangue & Plasma, due farmaci preziosi che tutti possediamo," highlighting the need for regular donors and noting a slight dip in donations in 2025 despite a modest increase in donors. All events underscored the role of volunteers and associations in maintaining a steady blood supply for hospitals and patients throughout Italy.
