Blood donation drives in Serbia and Bosnia mark World Blood Donor Day
On June 14, marking World Blood Donor Day, the Red Cross in Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia, held a ceremony honoring long‑time voluntary donors. Officials presented diplomas and thanked donors, noting that the city’s donor rate is 3.96 % of the population, 68 blood‑collection actions last year yielded 2,976 units, and 571 first‑time donors joined. Notable repeat donors included Miroslav Hornjak (20 donations) and Dragan Komnenović (35 donations). The event coincided with the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross of Serbia. Anita Obradović, city official, said the day “recognises the selfless acts that save lives,” while Dr Danica Kokar Guša highlighted the impressive local results.
In Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the NGO Fokus Zenica and the local Red Cross organized a three‑day voluntary blood‑donation campaign at the Kantonalna bolnica Zenica on 16‑18 June 2026, running each day from 08:00 to 13:00. Organizers urged healthy adults to donate to ensure sufficient supplies for hospitals and patients.
