Blood donation initiatives reported in Colombia and Spain
Health institutions in Colombia and Spain are reporting on blood donation initiatives and statistics. In Yopal, Casanare, the Hospital Regional de la Orinoquía (HORO) has launched a permanent information and education space to promote voluntary blood donation. Supported by bacteriology students from the Universidad de Boyacá, the initiative aims to educate patients and visitors, dispel myths, and increase the availability of vital blood components.
In Spain, the Centro Regional de Hemodonación reported that 8,776 donors participated in its summer campaign, including 779 first-time donors. The center has surpassed 30,000 total donations so far this year. Additionally, 282 people registered as bone marrow donors during July and August. Irene Marín, manager of the Servicio Murciano de Salud, noted that these donations have ensured that healthcare centers and operating rooms can maintain routine activities and treat patients requiring hemoderivatives.
