Blood shortages trigger urgent donation calls in Argentina and Brazil

Health authorities in Argentina and Brazil are issuing urgent calls for blood donations due to critical shortages in specific blood types.

In Comodoro Rivadavia, Argentina, the Blood Bank of the Hospital Regional has requested immediate donations of O Rh Negative (O-) and A Rh Negative (A-) blood. These specific types are in short supply and are urgently needed for pediatric oncology patients undergoing treatment. Donors are required to be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh over 50 kg, and present official identification.

In Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, the Hemosul network has issued an alert regarding a critical drop in O Positive (O+) blood stocks, which have fallen to approximately 20% of the ideal volume. Because O+ is the most common blood type in the Brazilian population, hospital demand is exceptionally high. Coordinator Marina Sawada Torres emphasized the need for immediate community mobilization to ensure continued service for emergency and inpatient care.
