Blood supplies in central Taiwan face critical shortage after typhoon

Blood reserves in central Taiwan have reached critical levels following Typhoon Krathon. The Taichung Blood Donation Center reports that total blood stocks are sufficient for only approximately 3.4 days, with Type A blood being the most urgent at only 2.1 days of supply remaining.

In the Taichung, Changhua, Nantou, and Yunlin regions, medical facilities require approximately 1,800 bags of blood daily. Currently, there is a deficit of about 4,860 bags. Pressure on blood distribution is expected to increase as hospitals prepare for high-volume usage on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, alongside upcoming weekend demands.

To address the shortage, Taiwan High Speed Rail has announced a series of 12 mobile blood donation events starting November 6. These events will take place over four consecutive Fridays at the Nangang headquarters and various stations along the high-speed rail line. Participants donating 250cc of blood can receive a limited edition N700ST model sports bag, while those donating 500cc will receive an additional gift.
