Bloodborne community project enables native PC performance
A community-led project known as bbport has developed a way to run the PlayStation 4 game Bloodborne natively on PC. Unlike traditional emulation methods such as ShadPS4, which attempt to emulate an entire console, bbport utilizes the game’s original x86-64 executable. It functions by replacing necessary libraries and services and translating graphics to Vulkan using a highly modified renderer.
This approach eliminates the need for real-time CPU instruction translation, significantly reducing overhead. While early versions were limited to approximately 26 FPS, current optimizations allow for performance between 90 and 150 FPS depending on hardware and resolution. The project supports various frame rate modes, including 30, 60, and 90 FPS, and includes support for FSR technologies.
Initially focused on Linux, the project has expanded to include versions for Windows 10, Windows 11, and Steam Deck via AppImage. It also allows for graphical adjustments, such as disabling motion blur and SSAO, and supports community mods and patches.
