BloodCounts! project to use AI for early disease detection via blood tests

The BloodCounts! project is developing frontier artificial intelligence models to analyze complete blood count (CBC) tests for earlier disease detection. By using advanced analytics to reveal subtle patterns in blood cell alterations, the initiative aims to improve early diagnosis, prognosis, and clinical decision-making without adding extra burden to patients or clinicians.

Hosted by the Cambridge Centre for Advanced Research and Education in Singapore (CARES), the project is the first healthcare-focused initiative in the center’s history. It involves partnerships with Singaporean hospital groups National University Health System (NUHS) and SingHealth, as well as researchers from Nanyang Technological University and the University of Cambridge.

The project builds upon an international consortium that originated at the University of Cambridge. The collaboration now includes academic research centers across the United Kingdom, Singapore, Belgium, The Gambia, Ghana, India, and the Netherlands.
