Bloom Energy, Illumina, and Everpure to join S&P 500

S&P Dow Jones Indices has announced that Bloom Energy, Illumina, and Everpure will be added to the S&P 500 index. The changes are scheduled to take effect before the market opens on September 21, 2026, as part of a quarterly rebalance.

These three companies will replace Molson Coors Beverage, The Trade Desk, and Builders FirstSource, which will move to the S&P SmallCap 600. Additionally, Illumina and Everpure will be removed from the S&P MidCap 400. Everpure, formerly known as Pure Storage, is not a new listing but a rebranded entity.

The announcement triggered immediate market reactions, with Bloom Energy shares rising as much as 7.5% in after-hours trading. Inclusion in the S&P 500 is considered a significant catalyst for stocks, as index-tracking funds and exchange-traded funds are required to purchase shares to mirror the benchmark, increasing demand and liquidity.
