Bloomfield Group proposes Rix's Creek mine extension near Singleton

The Bloomfield Group is seeking approval to extend the life of its Rix's Creek North open-cut mine near Singleton, potentially extending operations from 2035 to 2049. If approved, the project would extract an additional 62 million tonnes of run-of-mine coal and retain 325 full-time workers.

Economic projections in the environmental impact statement suggest net production and social benefits to New South Wales ranging between approximately $419 million and $483 million over the 14-year extension. Japan remains a primary market for the region's coal, accounting for nearly half of all thermal and metallurgical coal exports.

The proposal has raised concerns regarding the historic Kangory (Dulwich) homestead, which is situated within the project area. The assessment of the extension involves balancing economic benefits against impacts on greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, and local heritage.
