Bloomington Police Capture Arson Suspect Using License Plate Data
On April 21, 2026, a house fire broke out at the 2000 block of South Rogers Street in Bloomington, Indiana. A 54‑year‑old woman was critically injured and taken to a hospital in Indianapolis. Her adult son and his vehicle were missing from the scene. Using data from Flock's License Plate Recognition (LPR) system, investigators tracked the vehicle across Greene, Orange and Lawrence counties. The LPR information led officers to a motel in Mitchell, where the suspect—a 37‑year‑old man—was taken into custody about 12½ hours after the initial 911 call. He was booked into the Monroe County Jail on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, arson and vehicle theft. Police arrived within three minutes, but a nearby surveillance camera had been vandalized, with its cables cut and lens spray‑painted, preventing it from aiding the investigation.
