BLOQ: New app and device combat smartphone addiction
Two 19-year-old entrepreneurs from Bahía Blanca, Joaquín Velazquez Arriola and Matías Freije, have developed BLOQ, a technological solution designed to reduce smartphone dependency and digital distractions.
Unlike standard software-only blockers that users can easily deactivate, BLOQ utilizes a combination of a mobile application and a physical support device. The system employs NFC technology to allow users to configure specific blocking modes for social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter).
The device is intended to assist with concentration during study or work by requiring a physical action to unlock certain functions, thereby supporting the user's willpower. Users can also program routines, such as blocking phone access during sleep hours to prevent usage immediately upon waking or before bedtime.
